We cannot pay anything toward your expenses at present, however there will be tea/coffee and biscuits and (most importantly) we are hoping this will be a great opportunity to engage with artists on a critical level in what promises to be a well-attended and truly exciting show.
Calling all volunteers - are you free this Friday 26th June between 10am and 2pm? Fancy a preview of the new building? We need you - armed with all the cleaning products and rubber gloves etc. you can muster up at short notice - to help us with tidying and cleaning the space prior to painting.
Meet outside (email us for the address if you don't have it) at 10am! We will try to keep you all in tea and biccies!!
We are fortunate to be able to welcome our first show to CoExist this July (in advance of our launch).
The Tantalum Memorial is a series of telephony-based memorials by the artists group Harwood, Wright, Yokokoji, to the people who have died as a result of the “coltan wars” in the Congo. The installation is constructed out of electromagnetic Strowger switches – the basis of the first automatic telephone exchange invented in 1888. The title of the work refers to the metal tantalum, an essential component of mobile phones.
Many thanks to all who have volunteered to help so far - we are keeping a list of names and as soon as we get the keys to the building (which should be in less that a week) we will arrange a time to start work and also a time for those interested in studios to view.
SIDESHOW - a smaller show, diversion or spectacle offered in addition to the main attraction.
Village Green is set to take place on 26th September 2009 at Chalkwell Park in Southend-on-sea. CoExist have been invited to participate and are planning a '10-in-one' type show, an exhibition themed on the traditional SIDESHOW.
Whatever your take on this, we would like to receive submissions for this event - based on sideshow-type acts.
Performance, Painting, Photography, Installation, Sculpture etc etc etc... the more varied the better!

Official confirmation has today been received by CoExist that we have been successful in securing funding for the setup of the Artist Studios through Arts Council East. This is great news as this means we can commence work on the studios and gallery as soon as we gain access to the building!
