CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS ARTSIDE is the first edition of an annual project that transforms the centre of the town into a pulsating art platform. It includes art exhibitions and events taking place on and around the Southend High Street from 10-23 July 2010. This year the theme is 'wish you were here...' and CoExist invite you to Southend-on-Sea to re-think the traditional concepts of the British holiday town and to dispel the myth of the obvious seaside imagery by showing an alternative side to this genre.
Emerging and established artists and creative practitioners are invited to submit proposals for works which disrupt the norms of the 'kiss me quick' expectations of the seaside or proposals that explore the element of the sea, through any media including painting, photography, installation, sculpture, performance and film. We would also be interested in hearing from artists who wish to take inspiration or use the local environment, including the Southend beach.
Also as part of ARTSIDE 2010 - wish you were here... CoExist will be producing a series of postcards from selected artworks. The postcard series is being produced as a homage to the poster and postcard culture of the 20th century.
